We’ve arrived at a somber threshold—100 days into President Donald Trump’s second term, marked not by healing or unity, but by a determined unraveling of the moral fabric meant to bind this nation together.

In these first days, we’ve witnessed the systematic dismantling of civil rights protections and a targeted assault on the most vulnerable among us.

Let us name what we see. Let us resist the temptation to soften harsh truths with polite detachment. We must be both pastoral and prophetic in this moment.

In a direct affront to hard-won victories for fairness, President Trump revoked Executive Order 11246, removing the federal mandate for equal employment opportunities. This administration has now replaced it with Executive Order 14173, a cruel decree that has erased federal DEIA (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility) programs from existence.

We grieve the shuttering of the Minority Business Development Agency, lament the cancellation of DEI-related contracts, and mourn the silencing of civil rights offices—those sacred spaces where truth once found refuge.

With the stroke of a pen, Executive Order 14168 stripped gender identity from the list of protected categories in federal employment. Web pages that once offered resources to LGBTQ+ federal employees now vanish like smoke. Transgender individuals in federal custody have been left exposed, their protections pulled like a rug from beneath their feet.

Let us be clear: this is not bureaucracy—it is erasure.

The administration has revived and expanded the 287(g) program, deputizing local law enforcement as enforcers of federal immigration policy, without meaningful oversight. We know the bitter fruit this bears: racial profiling, civil rights violations, and the criminalization of compassion.

Meanwhile, even in the face of a court ruling mandating legal counsel for unaccompanied migrant children, the administration attempted to turn its back. Praise God for the judge who said: Not so fast.

Federal budget cuts to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) may seem like cold numbers on a spreadsheet. But in real life, they are an attack on climate science, cultural preservation, and access to education, especially for those already living on the margins.

Let us not be lulled into believing these actions are accidental, incidental, or isolated. No, beloved, what we are witnessing is not the result of oversight—it is the fruit of intention.

This is a deliberate and methodical campaign to roll back generations of hard-fought progress toward equity and inclusion. It is no coincidence that the tools built to repair systemic harm—diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility initiatives—are the first to be gutted. It is no coincidence that those living at the intersections of race, gender identity, immigration status, and poverty are the ones most impacted.

We are told this is about “merit.” We are told this is about “efficiency.” But let us not be deceived by such language. These words are cloaks for a more insidious agenda—a reassertion of power by those who believe justice is a zero-sum game. A belief that opportunity for some is a threat to others. That

the presence of Black, queer, immigrant, disabled, and poor bodies in spaces of influence somehow dilutes the fabric of this nation.

When DEI programs are dismantled, when transgender lives are erased from federal protections, when immigrant children are denied legal representation, when public services like libraries and climate research are starved of funding—it tells a singular and devastating story: some lives are deemed less worthy of protection, dignity, and survival.

But here we stand, as people of faith and conscience, to proclaim a counter-testimony: Every life bears the image of God. Every soul carries the divine spark. There are no disposable people in the kin-dom of God. Our work, our calling, is to lift up that truth—loudly, boldly, and without apology—until justice is no longer a dream deferred but a promise delivered.

As people of faith, we cling to the sacred truth in Genesis 1:27—that every human being is lovingly and intentionally created in God's image. This holy affirmation does not discriminate.

It does not favor the privileged or the powerful. It extends to the immigrant child traversing borders in search of safety, clutching hope with trembling hands. It envelops the transgender parent navigating a society that too often refuses to see their humanity, yearning simply to provide for their family without fear.

It covers the Black entrepreneur laboring with vision and tenacity, building brilliance from the bricks of systemic oppression. To see these beloved children of God and declare them unworthy—to strip them of protections, deny them opportunity, erase their existence—is not merely a political act.

It is a theological betrayal. To deny their dignity is, in truth, to deny the very God who breathed life into them. It is to look into the divine mirror of creation and turn away.

Scripture does not leave us silent or still in this time. We draw strength from the prophet Amos, who did not whisper in the face of injustice but cried out with holy indignation: “Let justice roll down like waters, and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream.”

That cry still echoes today. It is not just a poetic plea but a demand from the Divine. It is God calling us out of complacency and into covenantal responsibility. A faith that refuses to fight for justice is no faith at all. Let us be the flood that washes away injustice. Let us be the stream through which righteousness flows.

2. Invest in Protection💸 Donate to groups like the Young Center for Immigrant Children’s Rights, ensuring unaccompanied children are not left defenseless.

3. Defend What Sustains Us📚 Support your local libraries. Show up for community climate education. Demand funding for NOAA and IMLS.

4. Gather and Grow Together🏛️ Host community teach-ins. Share stories. Strategize for resistance grounded in love and collective power.

5. Let the Church Be the Church⛪ Partner with faith-based justice ministries. Let pulpits and pews resound with truth, compassion, and holy defiance.

Beloved, the waters of justice don’t roll on their own.They move when we move.They swell when we speak.They surge when we serve together.

So go now, fueled by righteous rage and fierce hope.Go now to lift up the fallen and call down the walls of oppression.Go now—because silence is not neutral, and faith without works is dead.

May the God who sees the unseen, the Christ who walks with the wounded, and the Spirit who stirs our souls be your guide, courage, and song.
